Hijab in Row
controversy began on 1 January 2022 when 6 teenage Muslim girls were not
allowed to enter their classroom because of wearing Hijab. The respective
principal of the college did not allow them to put on Hijab in the classroom.
And since then, many incidents happened and controversy turned out to be a more
violent protest.
Later, on
Jan 3 some college students wore saffron shawls protesting against permitting
Hijab-wearing Muslim girls in the college & inside classrooms.
On January
19, 2022, meetings were made to resolve the issue by grouping parents,
students, college officials but the meeting ended without any positive results.
And the next day, Muslim girls were seen with placards in their hands, “Hijab
is Our Right” written on it.
As the hijab
controversy continued to grow in Karnataka, student protests have started intensifying,
aggressively spreading in the nearby districts of the state, demanding holidays
due to the extreme violence. As telecasted by various news channels known for
most reliable breaking news in Hindi
on Tuesday, ample numbers of students were seen protesting before the
Government Pre-University College in Rabakavi Banahatti in Bagalkote.
On the
Republic day i.e. 26 January, Karnataka Govt. along with an expert committee
came forward to tackle the situation and proudly announced that all girls
should follow the rules until the final decision. But later on 31 January, a
Muslim girl filed a petition saying that wearing Hijab comes under the
constitution, under our fundamental rights.
The Hijab
row controversy spread like a fire and affected many districts of Karnataka.
Students of Sir MV Government College of Shivamogga district were seen wearing
saffron shawls to protest against the girls, and many students pelted stones at
the policemen. And in return, Police responded with tear gas and did Lathi Charge
on Antis. To stop further nuisance in the district, section 144 got imposed by
the Govt. and forces have been settled down to restrict any activity.
Dravida
Munnetra Kazhagan (DMK) MP Senthil Kumar raised the Karnataka Hijab row issue
in the parliament and resolve the ongoing hijab row issue, Karnataka CM
Basavaraj Bommai held a meeting with Primary and Secondary Education Minister
BC Nagesh along with reputed government officials.
CM appealed
to the opposition and all the students not to enhance the crucial situation by
making “provocative” statements, kindly wait for the High Court order.
Constitution
of India offers the right to wear as per one’s choice, as it comes under
Fundamental right, but the legality of recent dress code in educational places that
restricts wearing Headscarves & Hijabs directly violates the Fundamental
rights. If you admire Hindi news then you can either search for top trending news in Hindi to get
