"By the afternoon, Russian troops and tanks had entered Ukraine from three directions: Belarus to the north, Ukraine to the east, and Ukraine to the south." Putin expected an immediate assault, with his soldiers storming Kyiv and deposing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's government. However, his troops encountered severe resistance from Ukraine's armed forces, laying the groundwork for the ongoing fighting in several important cities.
